ADU Geeks designed flawed plans that violated Ca building codes and fire egress codes. (Somehow approved by the city)
This left us delayed by several months. To which we lost several thousands of dollars in missed rent and additional costs to hire a GC that we could trust to get the job done because the GC that they referred was making mistakes.
If you value your time and money, I would look elsewhere. Not only did they shift the blame. They put the cost to correct their mistakes back on me, the home owner.
I’m more than happy to provide evidences to their poor choices when it comes to my project to anyone to help avoid the same headaches I encountered.

Im a very active commercial real estate agent and investor in San Diego. Dealing with the city permitting department is a long and lengthy process with delays and surprises at every turn. Sometimes it feels like going 2 steps forward and 1 foot backwards, especially with a complex project like I have converting 5 attached garages into 5 micro ADUs. I am 1.5 years in and still a few months from completion with the project. Thankfully I have had ADU geeks to help me navigate the design process, commercial building code, city ROW, contractor references, etc... Even after plans were approved by the city, we hit a roadblock with the water dept that caused me to go back to the drawing board and actually upgrade a waterline and submit plan changes with the city. ADU geeks came back to the rescue and helped me navigate that. I would dread the process of dealing with the city myself. thank god for ADUgeeks. Xavier, Kalani, and their team have made the permitting process bearable. Just be prepared for a lot of delays from the city, and don't be afraid to ping them on your project regularly for clarity.

Zach Collins did an outstanding job conducting his study for our team. His communication skills were an A+. If you are in need of any ADU help, I highly recommend ADU geeks

My plans were scheduled to be delivered in 18-26 weeks and we are now going on 27 months of waiting. They ask for almost the ENTIRE payment up front, and I guess they just lost interest in our project. Communication is poor and updates are scarce. Would recommend you find someone else

I can't recommend ADU Geeks highly enough. Competent, efficient, friendly & helpful. They did a fantastic job of turning our ADU dream into plans and then securing all the necessary permits. Thank you ADU Geeks!

I’m both an active real estate agent in SD as well as an investor. Before engaging on my first ADU project, I vetted 4 companies who specialized in streamlining the ADU process. It was evident to me that a lot of companies were best for smaller projects, certainly not multifamily. ADU Geeks, specifically Kalani in my talks with him, stood out to me as someone who really knew the ins and outs of that world. I have been very pleased thus far with our 4 sites and counting, and thoroughly enjoy working with their team on the different segments of projects. Will continue to go with them in the future and they are my go to referral for all my clients!

UPDATE

I was the author of an unfavorable 1-star review below (written just over a month ago). For whatever reason, I was unable to locate or edit my initial review. After chatting with Google for over an hour attempting to find & modify the initial review we were unsuccessful.

The only reasonable option I have at this time is to add a new review, so please note that this is not a true 5-star review, it is simply a secondary review that I am updating to reflect a neutral review. (Ideally, I would have liked to remove my initial review, yet that is not an option). I would also like to note that I am a real estate professional that referred ADU Geeks to my clients, so I am not the actual client, nor am I the actual consumer.

There was a breakdown in communication between my clients and ADU Geeks for an extensive period of time. After not getting the resolve we deserved, I escalated the matter to a member of their leadership / development team (Keith). From the moment we connected Keith was in constant communication and I wanted this update to reflect that he did everything within his power to attempt to lend resolution to this matter. He was very communicative and in my opinion, also very reasonable.

On a final note, I recommended ADU Geeks to my clients, as I was aware of what they were truly capable of and have witnessed their work and professionalism on past projects. It is my understanding that my clients have elected to pass on building out an ADU at this time...

Timing and communication are key - safe to say, we have all grown from this experience!

I signed my agreement on Nov 30 for a relatively simple garage conversion. The plans did not get to the city until June and I only made 2 minor edits to the plan. It's August and I still have no idea when I will receive my permit. Also, as a rule they don't even visit your site. Someone is sent out to measure and take photos and that is it. The communication is awful. One of my electronic payments was "lost". Constant excuses.
I would not recommend using ADU Geeks.
