In spite of being one of those people who do not like being photographed, I get very anxious in front of the camera, I signed up to be one of the women in a 50 over 50 project. Jana is a pro at making one feel comfortable. The photos she took of me are stunning. I never imagined I would have a 2ft. x 2ft. portrait of myself in my dining room, but I do! Her magic is real.

Jana Marcus is a beautiful human and an extremely talented, award winning artist. I have been a fan of her work for over five years and have had two different photo shoots with her. Both times I was extremely nervous because of my own insecurities and emotional baggage when it comes to how I look in photos. Soon after arriving at the Jana Marcus Photography studio, I became aware that Jana Marcus is more than a portrait photographer. She is a visual artist who uses a completely holistic approach. While preparing for the external shoot – clothes, hair, makeup - she explores the identity, personality, mood, and life journey of her subjects with empathy, compassion, humor, and delight. She draws the inside out so successfully, so respectfully, one wants to share their inner self for her to shine the light on them. Her eye for detail, subtlety, and emotion is remarkable. So much so, that after a few years passed from my first experience at her studio, I returned, knowing she could capture the woman I am now, the moment I inhabit in the present, with sensitivity and skill. The hardest thing about this process is choosing just a selection from the many fine, unique, and moving photos Jana captures. I urge everyone to give this gift to themselves and their loved ones.
