Stearns' art is way more than putting paint on canvas--It's a way of seeing the world, of inventing expression for it, through it, near it, in concentrated color, with new edges. He is one of my all-time favorite painters. Stearns started taking art lessons as very young child, riding the bus to get to a studio. It really, really paid off. A look around his studio will make that clear.
