I am currently a student at SFMS and I am in the honors program. If you think that SFMS or even SFiAM are bad school choices, you're wrong. In school they constantly tell us that it isn't the school that is bad, it is the students. You might think that there are fights here everyday, well your wrong. If there is a fight it is under control because before it even starts, security will be there. Don't judge these two school by little rumors you here all over town because your technically saying that students like me are bad and always get into fights. This school is great. You have to earn respect from teachers and if a teacher disrespects you then you report them. What is sad is that we only have three elective class choices. Maybe that will change in the future.

This school treats kids like criminals. No scissors. No glue. No sharpeners. No markers. Come on these staff don't trust the students at all. Plus the students stole my $111 skateboard and someone tore my $50 book and they blamed it on me. Don't come.

Our daughter recently graduated from this school with honors. She has straight A's and E's. I am extremely impressed with this school. I have to be honest, I'm from Woodland Hills, CA and I went to El Camino Real High School. I had pretty much labeled this school and had my concerns about safety and even the quality of education at this school.

However, this school really reminded me NOT to judge a book by it's cover. First and foremost, this school's appearance doesn't look bad so by judging it by it's cover I really mean just the "stereo type that goes with living in San Fernando/Sylmar" area. Our daughter has had nothing but good reviews of the Middle School. I met with some of the teachers and they are very friendly. Any time I called the school or went into the office the staff was always very professional and friendly. The staff, principal and counselors were all more than willing to help.

The school has so many programs to help any student who is failing a class or just needs tutoring. They also have a program called project grad which is really good and according to our daughter fun. They allow the kids to come inside during lunch and play chess and other games. They plan college tours and the counselors with proj. grad. make sure the students enrolled in the program are taking all of their prerequisites. It's a wonderful program.

The school seemed well staffed and I liked that they had staff always around before and after school monitoring the students. If I had to say one thing I wish could be improved about this school it would be the ease of entering the school. One time when I entered the school there was someone sitting at a desk as soon as you entered the school main office hallways. She had me sign in. I never had to sign out though. I wish that they had someone always sitting there so that everyone who entered the school who wasn't staff had to not only sign in but leave their I.D. This way it would ensure they signed out too. Even if they are just going to one of the offices. I know it's tedious but in this day and age when so many of our schools are being shot up, I feel the added security is necessary.

I feel blessed that our experience was a good one. All of our daughter's teachers (Mr. Vaca, Mr Robertson, Ms Meza, Mr Fuentes, Mr Rolston, Ms. Jung, Mrs Duarte, Miss Evans, Miss Golden, Miss T) were truly AWESOME! If you are considering coming to this school, ask for one of those teachers you will be glad you did 🙂
