As a parent of an SJSU Industrial Design student, I am honestly impressed with the variety and intensity of design projects she has taken on. Now in her third year, I have seen numerous examples of both digital and physical projects she's created that are frankly mind-blowing, and are quite obviously great prep work for the real world. I've heard mostly good commentary about the staff, though one comment was both humorous and unfortunate... they can't all be 100% every day of every year. Who is? At the end of the day, the quality of the education is only going to be as good as the effort put for by the student, both during school and more importantly afterwards. It's completely up to the student to learn best practices through trial and error, be inventive, be creative, find solutions through failure, be versatile, network with masters of the industry, know how to survive alone, how to work collaboratively with others, and how to pivot on a dime. While some schools have merely a class or two that focus on Industrial Design, SJSU offer an entire multi-year program. So I give it five stars..... with only three semesters to go!
